Avoiding Spam Filters There are several common—and easily avoidable—issues that can make an honest email newsletter look like spam. First and foremost, watch out for spammy content. This includes writing in ALL CAPS, using salesy subject lines, and pasting in one giant image instead of including actual text. Broken HTML code can also cause spam filtering issues, which is why you should test, test, and then test again before sending a campaign. Once you learn how spam filters think, you’ll be better prepared to send emails that stay out of junk filters. Spam Complaint Prevention When readers mark campaigns as spam in their email programs, it affects deliverability. Even folks who aren't spammers can get flagged, so we recommend learning how abuse reports work and surveying ways to prevent them. Authentication Familiarize yourself with the different types of email authentication (the way your list knows your email is really from you), and why we enable authentication for all your campaigns by default.
